One of my favorite things about workwear for women in this generation is that style is now appreciated more than it ever has been before! Women are not limited to traditional pant suits and pointy toed heels. And although those can be adorable too, the point I am trying to make here is that women can still dress professionally while showing their true style, and I’m loving it!
As a working professional myself, I wanted to share a few key takeaways when it comes to style in the workplace:
1. Don’t Be Afraid of Colors and Patterns
I am here to tell you that color and patterns are completely acceptable in the workplace, when worn appropriately. Making bold choices in your professional wardrobe can increase confidence and boost overall happiness. When you feel more confident in yourself, you are more likely to feel happier and by association work harder! Adding a pop of color into your work outfit is just what the doctor ordered.
2. Wear Cute AND Comfortable Shoes
This is a simple piece of advice, but should not be taken lightly. We all know the saying, “beauty is pain,” however this should NOT be applied when building your professional wardrobe. You need to be at your sharpest and most productive self while you are in boss babe mode, and you can not do this if you are miserable! Don’t sacrifice comfort for a cute pair of shoes during work, just don’t do it. Most people work 8 to 9 hours a day, and that’s a long time to be on your feet, even for those who sit at a desk. It’s super easy to find adorable shoes that will compliment your outfit perfectly, without causing you pain.
3. Invest In a Few Quality Staples
As working women, we want to look our best and feel our best. This often leads to shopping for new work clothes, at least for me. You can save money however by investing in a few quality staples that can be styled in various ways with statement pieces. The best part is that you more-than-likely already have a few of these hanging in your closet! Some of my favorite go to staples that I re-wear with other pieces include a cream colored cardi and a dressy black tank.
4. Stay Tasteful
As important as it is to dress stylish and trendy for work, it is equally as important to stay tasteful. Never wear an outfit you wouldn’t want to take your dad out to lunch in! Be conscious of how much skin you are showing and always make sure to look in the mirror before you leave in the morning to ensure you are wearing appropriate undergarments.
5. Be Authentically YOU
My last piece of advice is to stay true to you who are! Do not allow yourself to conform to what everyone else is doing. The best way to achieve success in life is by being true and authentic to yourself and this includes your everyday style!
A few of my faves from this week:
Although hats are not appropriate in the workplace for most occupations, this simple black round crown floppy hat is a great addition to any outfit for happy hour after work! I love to pair mine with a long skirt, simple shirt and sandals or booties. I got mine from Francesca’s, and it is currently on sale for only $34.00!
If you know me at all, you know I am obsessed with Dottie Couture Boutique. Their styles are incredibly fashionable and affordable! They constantly run sales and their customer service is fantastic. This grey/black printed skirt is one of their newest arrivals and is the newest addition to my closet! I love skirts like these because they are comfortable to wear for an entire day and can be paired with several different tops. My favorite way to wear this skirt is with a simple black tank and a black bootie. You can get this skirt on the DCB website for only $39.00! Use code SEPT20 for 20% off your purchase.
These are another steal from Dottie Couture Boutique. These adorable camel suede perforated booties are sleek, simple and can be worn with various outfits. I love the burnt color, making them perfect for fall time! Right now you can get these booties for only $38.00. Use code SEPT20 for 20% off your purchase.
